Location and ecosystem in Cuatro Ciénegas, Coahuila.

For the Coahuila magic town, I picked Cuatro Cienegas, a location in the state's desert region. Cuatro Ciénegas is Spanish for "four marshes"; the name was chosen by the first settlers because of the natural springs in the vicinity that create extensive areas of wetland and lakes. There's a Biological Reserve.  The biological reserves are small ecosystems with unique fauna and flora that are highly protected by government authorities. There are some 150 different plants and animals endemic to the valley and its surrounding mountains.
Scientists working in the basin and some local residents claim to have observed reduced spring discharge and a decrease in surface water in the Cuatro Ciénegas Basin  in recent years. Some have blamed the possible drying out on changes in climate and others have ascribed it to the introduction of large scale agriculture in adjacent valleys over the past two decades.
Ecosystem Cuatrocienegas. Medium Density Fiberboard, cotton thread, silver chain. Laser cut, hand sew.
In my Cuatrocienegas piece my goal is to emphasize the interaction between ecosystems with different geographic locations. What you do in some place can have an impact in some other location. The name of the piece is "Ecosystem Cuatrocienegas".
Location and ecosystem in Mineral del Chico, Hidalgo.

For the Hidalgo magic town, I picked Mineral del Chico, a location in the state's forest region. Mineral del Chico is a miner town in the Pachuca Mountains. It was establised when settlers discovered silver mines and it's location also homes a National Park.
National parks have been established to contribute to conservation and management of natural resources and manage ecosystems and it's biodiversity that represent Mexico as a country.
Sadly, nowadays this protected forest has been damaged by forest fires, intense exploit of cattle farms  and intense logging.
